About the initiative

A research team asking a technology question with human stakes.

SafeTime AI is a public-interest research initiative of Apron Tech, based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria — with a track record of building mobile tools for measurable public good.

Our mission

To research and develop privacy-preserving, AI-assisted systems that help people exercise meaningful control over their own digital connectivity through voluntary pre-commitment.

Our vision

A future in which mobile technology supports human agency by design — where the ability to step away is as well engineered as the ability to connect.

Values

What we hold to be true

Protection must be proactive.

A safeguard that can be disabled at the moment of temptation has already failed.

Agency over control.

The system serves the user's stated intention — it does not impose an external judgment.

AI should support, not surveil.

Personalization is for the user's benefit — never for advertising, scoring, or shame.

Privacy is non-negotiable.

Behavioral learning must happen on-device, with consent, and with clear user control.

Wellbeing is universal.

From Uyo to Lisbon, the right to a healthier relationship with technology is shared.

Research before claims.

We publish what we find, including findings that do not support our hypothesis.
